Consider it a fantastic place not to finish that novel you've been working on for 10 years. But, you can still feel productive with good, old-fashioned beer-sippin' and spirited conversation. Its look is about what you'd expect from its name - old English, old wood and a few old drunks sprinkled in for good measure. This Morningside Heights comfort zone is an easy place to work your way down an inexpensive brew list and their few choice ciders. The food isn't anything to write a poem about, but the friendly, easy-going vibe just may be.

Used to be better
I used to frequent this pub quite a bit, it was located across the street from my old apartment and became my neighborhood bar. But in recent months the staff has had quite a bit of turnover and I don't find it nearly as friendly and low-key as it used to be. This also seems to have spread to the patrons as well. I'm giving this place a few months to recover and taking my dollars to Tap A Keg on Broadway instead. Hope to see the Abbey return to its old self soon, in the meantime, I see some of the bartenders from Abbey at Tap A Keg!
