If you can find your way deep into the heart of Carroll Gardens, you will be pleasantly surprised with this hopping and deserved crowded Italian Tapas-type restaurant. Frankie's attracts people from all Boroughs for a variety of reasons. The food is fresh and delicious, there is an enormous backyard to enjoy when the weather is good, and there is a private 'barn' off the backyard that serves as a rental room and/or extra seating. Wine can be bought by the carafe here, which is a nice option if a whole bottle seems too daunting.

Hooray for Jack the Horse! Finally a new and quality restaurant opens in the Heights, which has been stuck with short-lived mediocre restaurants for years now with few exceptions. Jack the Horse is hard to find, which is a plus because it means it's not overrun by tourists who have just stumbled over the Brooklyn Bridge and are looking for food and drink. The menu is short but sweet and the wine list is great, especially by the glass. The service and atmosphere is mellow yet lively- just perfect for this neck of the woods.

An interesting cross between a dining car and a ship (which pays tribute to the history of waterfront Red Hook), The Good Fork is worth the trek for a number of reasons. The food, which we would describe as American with a Korean or Asian twist, is delicious: our favorites are the fried oysters and beet and orange salad. The wait staff is friendly and efficient in this smallish space and definitely plan on making reservations as The Good Fork has been written up enough to pull in the 212 crowd.

Tucked into a corner of the base of the Manhattan Bridge, Superfine is as good a bar spot as it is a restaurant. The sunken bar is not big, but just the right size to take over with a group of friends to test out their fun cocktail menu or Brooklyn beers on tap. There is a pool table if the mood strikes you, and if you do happen to be hungry, their tapas-type food will hit the spot. Brunch is our favorite meal here, complimented by the occasional live music. Open Tue-Thu 11:30am-2am; Fri 11:30am-4am; Sat 4pm-4am; Sun 11am-12am

Adding to the growing collection of new and notable restaurants in the Columbia Waterfront District, this French/African restaurant is distinctive in it's menu. The portions and taste pairing are generous without being overdone, and the prices are very reasonable with the exception of the wine list, which is a little on the high side for this area of town. Don't miss the great garden when the weather is worthy of it.

Deep into Carroll Gardens and off the beaten restaurant row path, is Crave. It exudes that cozy and quaint Brooklyn charm that brings people in from the outer-boroughs. Crave is a great restaurant with the twist of being a full service and active caterer in the area. The menu changes often (perhaps to try new things out for their catering jobs?) and the tasting menu is worth a try, and take their suggestions on the wine pairings for a culinary delight.
