Off the beaten path, but worth the trek. Sugar Lounge has a pool table up front and often has a live DJ on the weekends, making it a fun place to pass the time. The best feature is the huge backyard deck, including a covered portion that allows you to sit outside even when the weather is not perfect. The menu is small, but the food is above average in this up and coming Brooklyn neighborhood.

If you can find your way deep into the heart of Carroll Gardens, you will be pleasantly surprised with this hopping and deserved crowded Italian Tapas-type restaurant. Frankie's attracts people from all Boroughs for a variety of reasons. The food is fresh and delicious, there is an enormous backyard to enjoy when the weather is good, and there is a private 'barn' off the backyard that serves as a rental room and/or extra seating. Wine can be bought by the carafe here, which is a nice option if a whole bottle seems too daunting.

Adding to the growing collection of new and notable restaurants in the Columbia Waterfront District, this French/African restaurant is distinctive in it's menu. The portions and taste pairing are generous without being overdone, and the prices are very reasonable with the exception of the wine list, which is a little on the high side for this area of town. Don't miss the great garden when the weather is worthy of it.

Crowded, noisy and bustling, this is the best Thai food around and worth the visit. The entrees are inexpensive and plentiful and the service is fast and friendly. The bar scene is hopping, with a live DJ on Thursdays- Sunday night. Be sure to check out the Thai Calamari with kick-ass spicy sauce and the old standard of Pad Thai is done right here. Oh- and the curry are nothing to sneeze at either... massaman is a favorite of ours.
