Located in a former brownstone, this is one of the most quaint and funky places to eat in all of Brooklyn. There is a spacious and impressive bamboo garden out back with a separate bar outside to enjoy a warm weather cocktail. The cocktail of the day is usually worth a try, and the burgers here are hearty and delicious. A favorite of ours is the grilled vegetable sandwich with goat cheese and the mussels in a curry sauce.

You'll be drawn into the large glass façade of this new addition to Cobble Hill. Bocca is not large, but manages to feel both spacious and cozy at the same time. The wine list is generous and inexpensive and there is a great and reasonably priced kid's menu that includes perks such as a boxed apple juice and chocolate pudding. Be sure to check out the extensive cheese plate offering and fresh Carpaccio meat plate.

Beast has a great brunch offering for $10 on the weekends. Inside feels warm and cozy and the service is prompt without making you feel rushed. Their bloody marys are noteworthy and their coffee is fragrant and strong.

Short of actually being on a boat in the East River, you're not going to get a better view of the NY skyline and bridges than Bubby's. Located right on the Dumbo park and 'beach', you get to watch boats up and down the East river and can often be treated to a film or commercial shoot outside the window. The main claim to fame for Bubby's is brunch, with a southern twist. The cheese grits and sour cream pancakes are our favorites, and the kid's corner (equipped with toys) is a definite draw for those with wee ones. Open Weekdays 8am-9pm; Sat 10am-11pm; Sun 10am-9pm

Hooray for Jack the Horse! Finally a new and quality restaurant opens in the Heights, which has been stuck with short-lived mediocre restaurants for years now with few exceptions. Jack the Horse is hard to find, which is a plus because it means it's not overrun by tourists who have just stumbled over the Brooklyn Bridge and are looking for food and drink. The menu is short but sweet and the wine list is great, especially by the glass. The service and atmosphere is mellow yet lively- just perfect for this neck of the woods.

Spicing up the Prospect Heights brunch scene, Cheryl’s is a fun find for brunch. It’s tiny- plan on a wait if you show up past 11:30am for their great brunch options, and know that the wait staff will gently remind you that there are others waiting for a table if you linger too long over your hot java. Cheryl’s feels like a true hidden gem in it’s like wooden paneled and sloped ceiling, making you feel like you’re tucked far away from the busy streets of New York. The price fixe brunch options offer a potent Bloody Mary or Mimosa with your meal to ease the pain of your wait for your table in the first place…
