Best Day Drinking Bar !

We stumbled across Duke's while in Milwaukee for a day and night while on our way to Green Bay for a game a couple years ago. We were told to check out Water St. We saw Duke's and it looked like a regular ol' bar and hopped right in. It was great from the get-go; good crowd mix from college students, people who looked almost homeless, and a few out of towners. Service was great whether guy or girl, and the beers are dirt cheap, only $1 !!! When I walked up to order 5 and heard " $5 please " I laughed at the bartender and asked if she was kidding. I haven't seen that cheap since college. Now every time we all make it to Milwaukee its a point that we hit up Duke's; our favorite bar so far. Not a dirty dive bar, just a classic with brick walls and a nice big flat screen TV above the long bar for sports. If you go and there is hardly anyone there, just order a couple beers and give it some time; the people will show up without a doubt and its a fun, energetic time. KC love for Milwaukee

my favorite bars!!!

In response to the comment titled "interesting place", I truely dont think hes ever been in that bar! Nothing he said was accurate!!! These are the busiest bars on water st., and the most fun by far. I think one of the owners is jewish, and am pretty sure they wouldnt allow jew haters in the bar. Ugly bartenders? I dont think so!!! Obviouslly this jackass who admits to being kicked out for fighting is a moron! They should kick him out for good.

Interesting place

Interesting place...dirt cheap drinks, no food. It is a alky's bar, no doubt. Crowd is mostly broken down drunks, and some future broken down drunks. Mostly ugly women. Lots of gang banger wannabees and some of the real thing. Plenty of good old boy racists and Jew haters too. Some punk college students taht get too loud. Bad pool table, smells like vomit most of the time. Bartenders are cute mostly, but that is after a few of the very cheap drinks. They do allow cigar smoking and that is a plus. Did I mention all the hookers that use the bar to get drunken fat white men to give them their cash card numbers and then rob them blind without even akiss? Bascially, this bar is a true dive. You can get drunk, but will maybe get robbed, beaten, or kicked out for sure. With all that said, it is usually a good place to watch the game and get really drunk. I have yet to see any real fights or gun play or blasde work, so it is pretty safe that way. But, you could get a punch to the face easily. What you will not find are cute women until about your 7th drink, and even then they are really fat and even the most drinks can't cover that up. It is a true dump, but a lot nicer than its sister bar Scooters, that you can get to through a door next to the bar. Now that is real piece of work place! That said, I have spent far too many hours in both places, and even more when it was Mel's on Water. I have been kicked out of the bar numerous times, for fighting, pissing off patrons and the bartenders, among other infractions. They still keep taking me back. Great f-ing place. Christine is a freaky bartender at Scooters.

What a bar should be.

My baby and I were making our way through Water St. during the Cubs/Brewers final meeting in 2008. First time in Milwaukee. We enjoyed all the bars equally. Then we tripped into DUKE'S. Huge LG TV over the bar. Fast, attentive, chick bartender. Oh yeah, and beautiful. Ordered two beers. $2, she said. I haven't heard that since the 70's. My god, I dropped anchor right there. The crowd, of course was PRO Brewers. But the ones we spoke with were actual fans. They knew the game their team and every other team. Real fans. Although the Cubs beat the Brewers, we were treated like family. One of the best bars, ever.
