The dress code is casual among the white picket fence of The Ivy's front patio. From afar, you'd expect to find Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn dashing by on their way to another misadventure. But hold on, this isn't Missouri we're talking about, this is LA, baby. Look a little closer and you'll notice the wealthy and famous indulging in some comfort food and stiff drinks. Take a step close enough to read the menu and you'll see that people are paying big bucks to be there. The draw of The Ivy is that it's one of THE best places to be seen, especially among celebrities. And after enjoying The Ivy's patio on a breezy afternoon with a refreshing beverage, you'll understand why. Hours: Mon-Fri 11:30am-11pm, Sat 11am-11pm, Sun 10:30am-10pm

A popular gay bar where dancing is always in style, Here has one of the best patios in the city. Offering an amazing view of LA's skyline, the Roof Bar is art deco at its best. Consider all that this nightlife hotspot offers visitors: heated swimming pool, dance floor, bar, outdoor fireplace, vibrating waterbed pods and a grassy knoll with sculptured topiary. And again, those amazing panoramic views of downtown. Though always charging a cover on weekends, the view is worth the price of admission alone. Plus, tons of eye candies frequent the rooftop and the bartenders know their way around a good cocktail. Hours: Sat-Sun 12pm-1:30am

The Belmont's outdoor patio is fun, reflecting the same vibe one gets when hanging out inside. Never shy about making a strong cocktail, this trendy spot is one of the few that can pull off good old American comfort food while also catering to the type of crowd that cares more for alcohol content than calories. Their 4-7pm daily happy hour brings the patrons out early and for those that like to get there really early (before 10am), there's an early bird special, in which most popular breakfast items run for less than $6. Hours: Mon-Fri 9am-2am, Sat-Sun 8am-2am

With an outdoor patio overlooking the Sunset Strip, Katana has won their way into our hearts. Though the indoor dining areas are massive (the restaurant is 6,000 square feet), we prefer the energy of the great outdoors. The food here is charcoal-grilled, but not in the backyard 4th of July-way. Oh no, the grilling here is Japanese-style and the skewers of meat they create are tasty and great (too much rhyming, no?). As for the drinks, take advantage of Katana's sake sommeliers. They know their stuff and are more than happy to help you pair your robata with the perfect sake. Hours: Sun 6pm-12pm, Mon-Wed 5:30pm-12am, Thu-Fri 5:30pm-1am, Sat 6pm-1am

An English pub that does exactly what you'd expect an English pub to do: serve great pints. While the interior of the Cat & Fiddle is low key and pleasant, we like the outdoor patio, which is comfortable and, surprisingly, dog-friendly. Proprietor Kim Gardner (who passed away in 2001) was a rocker from across the pond and his pub is largely influenced by music and art. In additional to standard bar games (like darts), the Cat & Fiddle also televises European sporting events for those who like to watch their football (soccer) and rugby (rugby). Hours: Sat-Sun 11:30am-2am
