Forget packing up the SUV, dropping $75 fatties on gas and making the two-hour cruise south of the border. For a great (read: local) margarita, drive down La Cienega, dodge the valets, and pull over at the Spanish Kitchen. Wear sandals, because these margaritas will literally knock your socks off! The house (La Casa) varieties are not only the most economical, they're also the best. Hours: Daily 11am-11pm

Were these margaritas made by Mike Tyson? Because they certainly pack a punch! The 24 Kt. Margarita (Jose Cuervo's Reserva de la Familia and Grand Marnier Cent Cinquantenaire) is worth its weight in gold, though at $24 it should be. Less expensive, though equally phenomenal, are the El Cholo Margarita and the Fruit Infused Margaritas, both of which run for under $8. Some advice: first things first, make sure you fill up on Carmen's Original Nachos, so your tummy can handle the rush of oncoming tequila. Hours: Mon-Sat 11am-10pm, Sun 11am-9pm

Malo puts the capital M in Margarita. Technically, it puts the MA in MArgarita, but let's not get carried away here. Malo's extensive selection of tequilas, casual feel and $5 happy hour margaritas make for some satisfied, if not tipsy, customers. Places on Sunset can be hit-or-miss, but fear not readers, Malo most definitely falls into the "hit" category. Now go hit it up. Hours: Mon 5pm-10pm, Tue-Thu 5pm-11pm, Fri 5pm-2am, Sat 9:30am-2am, Sun 9:30am-10pm

Oh how we love your house margaritas, El Chavo. The way they stare up at us from their salt-licked rim, begging to be consumed, so sweet, so innocent…so reasonably priced. Your house margaritas represent stability in a world trying to trick us to into drinking lime-infused beer. We resist, but only because we know you exist. You are chilled and smooth, splashed with the right touch of tequila. You are serene yet potent. You are sexy without being overbearing. And you are cash-only, which I forgot to bring. Hours: Sun-Thu 4pm-10pm, Fri-Sat 4pm-11pm

The after work crowd adores Cabo Cantina and with good reason. During the week the killer margaritas (and all other drinks) are two-for-one. That's twice the alcohol for half the price, get it? You don't have to be an accountant to figure out that's a real bargain. The crowd is young and can get rowdy, but who doesn't get a little rowdy after two-for-ones? Your mama! Sorry, we've had a couple margaritas. To summarize: Cabo Cantina is a great stop for mega-deals on strong margs. Hours: Mon-Fri 4pm-12am, Sat-Sun 12pm-12am

El Compadre is on fire, literally. Or, we should clarify; El Compadre's margaritas are on fire. That's because this family-owned Mexican restaurant prides itself on being the "Home of the Flaming Margarita." It's a gimmick, but it's a fun one. Order up a margarita and they briefly light the sucker up, and then you (patiently) wait for the smoldering beverage to cool off before taking it down. Pyros and your college buddies agree: the home of the flaming margarita is the place to go when you're burning to have a fierce night out on the town. Hours: Daily 11am-1am
