T.J. Moran figured out a long time ago Baton Rougeans love barbecue, and his landmark spot next to I-10 has been a meat Mecca ever since. Lobbyists and lawmakers not at Ruth's Chris can usually be found here either chewing on Memphis-style spare ribs, or gobbling up fall-off-the-bone baby back ribs, all under the nostalgic gaze of LSU sports heroes immortalized in memorabilia covering the walls. It's dark, cramped and a little outdated, but there's a reason people wait more than an hour on Friday and Saturday nights to savor the warm, cheesy goodness that is a Fleur-de-Lis pizza served up with a pile of napkins. Who needs a plate? It's all part of the experience. You haven't lived until you've eaten an Around-the-World off of a napkin and sipped your Bud Lite out of a tiny juice glass. Tues-Sat 10am-10pm

This Baton Rouge classic has an extremely festive Louisiana style atmosphere. There are fish tanks, a long bar serving up great drinks and a very large dining area. Foodwise they serve up Louisiana classics and some very creative cajun creations. While this place can be a little pricy the food makes up for it. This restaurant is located near LSU and a great suggestion if you're in town for a weekend of LSU sports. They get very busy so call ahead or come early. Sun-Thurs 11am-9:30pm, Fri-Sat 11am-10:30pm

If you already had the experience of watching LSU football in Tiger Stadium then you undoubtedly know there’s no comparison. For those not blessed, words can only describe, you have to see it to believe it. The stadium, popularly known as “Death Valley,” is considered by opposing teams as one of the most difficult stadiums in which to play because of fan enthusiasm. According to ESPN, three SEC coaches from the 2007 football season said “Tiger Stadium is, by far, the loudest stadium in the country. "It's game time, half the place is loaded, the fans have been partying for like 20 hours straight, this is the last place you want to bring a your team." If you are from out of town go see the tigers play on a Saturday night and get the full all day tailgating experience.

Cane's is by far the best late night food place. Started by students that attended LSU Rasing Cane's will forever be a Baton Rouge favorite. It's the sauce that makes it good. And the fresh chicken marinated for hours before a batter and hot oil bath. And the lemonade -- fresh squeezed and avaialable only during lemon season. A Baton Rouge favorite. You will think you have died and gone to southern food heaven. The location might throw you being it's located in a strip mall but don't let that fool you. Once inside, you forget about it though. Try out the "Bayou Pearls"....sort of like crabcakes but less bread and scrumptious. Juban's is an amazing experience but be prepared to spend about $40-$60 for entree and drink. Alcohol will probably raise the bar on that a bit but who cares splurge a little and enjoy your amazing meal! Mon-Sat 6pm-10pm

This family-owned and operated restaurant serves authentic Italian cuisine and Italian-style food. Gino's is a cozy spot but keeping true to Italian style Gino's can get loud and the tables are close to together, so be ready to make friends with the group sitting next to you. Gino's was a famous spot back in the day for crooked Louisiana politicians to "discuss business," just ask you waiter to tell you some stories. It often draws large crowds of thirsty patrons from the surrounding LSU area residents. The crowd age ranges from mid twenty's to early thirty's. They occasionally bring in big name live music acts. A romantic, dimly lit European bistro atmosphere serving German, Italian, Turkish and Armenian dishes. Pinetta's was founded by the Bubola family, who immigrated from Eastern Europe in the 1950's. While sitting and enjoying some good food and wine you may get the feeling Al Pacino might walk through the door. It has been a Baton Rouge tradition since 1962. Most of the recipes were derived from generations of the Bubola family in the culinary service in Eastern Europe dating back to the 1800's. Favorite dishes include Marinated Shish Kabob, Wiener Schnitzel, Veal Parmigiana, Chicken Alla Cacciatora, Lasagna, Scaloppine, Shrimp Au Gratin, Shrimp Stuffed with Mushrooms, Hussar Steak, Spaghetti with Meatballs, Sauer Braten & Sauer Kraut, Thuringen Bratwurst and Tuscan Pork Roast. Copeland's still has great food despite the fact that it's now a large chain. It's always very crowded on any given evening, but their awesome creole food is worth the wait. They also have a really good light menu for those who want to eat Copeland's but don't want the calories that most Copeland's dishes are packed with.

Small Hole in the Wall Bar with some of the strongest drinks in town. Happy Note opened in its new location after being closed for many years and they are sticking firm to not changing the way it used to be. Great dive bar but you might want to steer clear of the older locals that hang out...they can get a little desperate.

Walk On's is in an absolutely wonderful place right off Nicholson and in the heart of where people attending LSU like to hang out. Local LSU sports radio shows (98.5) will do their broadcast at Walk-On's. Many times they have LSU athletes and the wonderful Les Miles doing interviews. The food is very good and the atmosphere is absolutely wonderful. If you're from out of town and in Baton Rouge for an LSU game then definitely go here. Walk On's gets alot of the good pride fighting and UFC events. It's a great time to watch them on the big screen TVs and projectors. Mon-Sat 11am-2am, Sun 11am-12am

For over 25 years now this has been a happening spot in the heart of LSU. A great place for singles. The bar features a stage, a dance floor and a large outside patio area. It often draws large crowds of thirsty patrons from the surrounding LSU area residents. The crowd age ranges from mid twenty's to early thirty's. They occasionally bring in big name live music acts. Nightly drink specials. Even at 30 I still go to Fred's from time to time. They have an occasional open bar special. $10 and drink free for 3 hours is hard to pass up on a Friday afternoon.

Located between LSU and downtown this is a truly unique bar in Baton Rouge. They have a bar, a stage, tables, a dance floor and an upstairs pool area. The bands that play there can best be described as Alternative/variety. It's basically whatever they feel is cool. Mon-Sat 9pm-2am
