Put on your boots, gas up your truck, and fill up the cooler. The Salt Lick is located about 30 minutes from downtown but well worth the drive. It opened its doors in 1969 and is a world renowned BBQ restaurant. Family style BBQ is served where it should be, on picnic tables. The menu features pork ribs, brisket, sausage, potato salad, cole slaw, beans, pickles, onions, and bread. Tea, coffee, and soft drinks are available, but bring your own alcoholic beverages, because Hays County is dry. Open Mon-Sun 11am-10:00pm

The County Line is located on the banks of Bull Creek just downstream from Lake Austin. For 25 years its been serving some of the states best BBQ. Leave the vegetarians at home, because this location is not known for its vegetables. If your on Lake Austin and find yourself hungry from the wake boarding, dock your boat and enjoy County Line's marina service. What would a BBQ restaurant in the live music capitol be without weekly performances by some of Austin's most notable country and bluegrass musicians.
